1/18 scalce model car mercedes benz SLR
Designed and built by McLaren of Formula 1 fame, it's no coincidence that this Mercedes is fabricated like a race car. Like its coupe counterpart, the SLR roadster features a chassis made from carbon fiber, a structure that retains tremendous rigidity even in its new open-top configuration. The supercharged 5.4-liter 626-bhp V-8 sits well behind the front axle, and the SLR roadster also retains the same suspension, 5-speed manu-matic transmission and carbon-ceramic brakes found in the coupe.
For roll-over protection, two roll hoops have been fitted and the A-pillars have been reinforced with steel, although the structure is still primarily carbon-composite. Other differences include larger paddle shifters, frameless doors, and a new trunklid and spoiler.
As befits a car of this caliber, customization is possible. Three contrasting-color weave options are available for the soft top, giving its fabric the look of carbon fiber. The brake calipers can also be had in three different colors to match. Even the fixed-back carbon-fiber seats feature custom padding. An estimated price of around $450,000 is admittedly steep, but this luxury sports roadster can trace its heritage straight from the track.
